The IASLC awarded four cancer care teams from around the globe with one of the association’s most prestigious award—the IASLC Cancer Care Team Award (CCTA). The winning teams were announced during the IASLC 2020 World Conference on Lung Cancer Singapore.
The CCTA recognizes a single institution in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia/Rest of World that provide exceptional care for patients with lung cancer and thoracic malignancies. Of the four winning teams, a single team is selected as the overall winner.
Teams are nominated by patients and/or family members. A nomination can include up to six individuals from the care team (e.g., oncologist, surgeon, nurse, palliative care provider, etc.). Nominations are accepted from all around the world. An individual who nominated the winning team from Petach Tikva, Israel stated, “Dr. Alona Zer, updates me frequently on the innovations that my cancer has. Each time a new “lesion” was discovered or growing, I received a comprehensive and detailed explanation. I got an overview of the different options with the implications of each option. I know I’m in good hands!”
“Oftentimes delivery of patient care is at its best when multidisciplinary team members offer the patient seamless and informed communication, as well as an individualized treatment plan based on not just the patient’s needs but the patient’s wishes,” said former IASLC CEO Fred Hirsch, MD, PhD. Dr. Hirsh is now Executive Director at the Center for Thoracic Oncology in The Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai (TCI) and the Joe Lowe and Louis Price Professor of Medicine (Hematology and Medical Oncology) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
